A word or two about safety
.

There has been a lot of bad news in our motorcycle world this spring. I have read or gotten e-mails about three in the last three weeks including one of our brothers from the Arizona Chapter. I am sure that all our prayers and best wishes go out to the families of everyone injured in a motorcycle accident this spring.

We not only have to watch out for cars and trucks every minute of every ride, we must remember look out for other bikers. I hope these reminders and tips will help keep you safe.

 1) STAY RIGHT. Often when going around a bend, many of us hug the center line. This can be a deadly mistake to even the most experienced rider when another rider hugging the center line or an automobile drifts over into your space causing a collision. Try to stay to the right in case the other guy makes a mistake that could be deadly to both of you.
2) LOOK for illegal left turns into you. This happened to one or our members from the NY1 chapter, who was not born with ESP allowing him to predict the other guy’s illegal turn. Loud pipes or not, they don't see you or don't even care that you’re there. Between cell phones and stereos that could blow out your eardrums, how could they be looking for you?
 3) TIME is your best friend!!!! When the light turns, wait a couple of seconds to see if the other guy is going to try to beat the light. It seems that YELLOW means speed up and RED means only the next four cars turn in front of you. Remember, Right on Red seems to mean don't stop, but try to turn at 30mph. Stopping and looking for three to five seconds may save your life!!!
4) LOOK AROUND. If you feel like you’re in a bad spot, move!!! Always have a place to go. Try not to be stuck between other cars and guard rails and walls. If you stay center or right you will have a better chance of getting out of the way if someone moves into your lane.
RIDE HARD BUT RIDE SAFE !!!
